George Wilbert Mosher (1863-1939)


George was born on 4th April 1863 in Newport Landing, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Reuben Mosher (1823-1900) and Ann Elizabeth Crossley (1826-1889). He married Miss Helen McHealey of Summerville and in 1890 the couple left for California. George worked hard and established himself in Palo Alto. A daughter Anita Allene Mosher was born in January 1895. He was for many years a bridge builder, employed with the Southern Pacific Railway, mostly in the Santa Clara Valley. In 1898 he was elected to Council which was University Park until it was changed by charter to Palo Alto in 1932. He served from 1898 until 1919 and then returned in 1929 until his death in 1939. In that term he was a member of Public Accounts and the Public Works Committees.
