The story of the "Mosher Millions" is family folklore. It is a great story and well worth mentioning here.
Sadly for those Moshers that thought they would be the recipients of an inheritance, they were disappointed. Only the "agents" who did the organising of family conventions got money from this "venture".
The basis of this formed in the early history of the English Moshers. The story recorded has a variety of origins and over time showed no sign of diminishing. The first being newspaper advertisements in October 1836. Many descendants of the Moshers claimed to be a possible recipient of part of this "fortune". Lawyers were even engaged. The story fizzled out eventually when there was little evidence and not withstanding it had been some 250 years plus since the supposed origin of the fortune. One story had the Hugh Mosher as a Bristol Woollen manufacturer and another as a Baron, appointed after service to the East India Company. He was unmarried and on his death, the fortune reverted to the Crown, having no heirs.
